Long Drives
The
time is late evening. Hubby and I have just left from a fancy restaurant after
meeting some friends. Instead of heading straight home, we decide to go for a
long drive. Suddenly the mood changes. Instead of watching Netflix in silence,
we are now all set to extend the evening and spend some quality time
exclusively with each other.
We
switch on some of our favorite songs and drive towards the Sea Link. Once we
touch the Sea Link, the temptation to speed is strong. The hubby, being the
more conservative one, refrains saying that he doesn’t want a ticket. I am fine
with the idea. I want the drive to stretch on, as long as possible.
We
cross Worli Sea Face and are headed towards the other end of town. We decide to
take the road that leads to Walkeshwar.
It’s
a beautiful road that is quite quiet. Different from the noisy streets of our
neighborhood. The conversation between us is restricted to a few words. The
music and the comfortable silence seem to be a better option. I rest my head on
his shoulder for a bit.
Spotify
offers us the best songs by Arijit Singh. Time and again, we look at each other
and smile. Music is so therapeutic.
Once
back on the main road, we decide to proceed further towards town. We cross
Cuffe Parade, and head towards Navy Nagar.
We
finally touch the end of Mumbai city. It has been over an hour since we left
from Bandra. Finally, making a U turn we are on our way back home.
We
reach home in a calm and happy frame of
mind.
Another
time……another day. My buddy and I decide to go for a long drive. The time is
around 6.30 pm.
The
music is loud as her jaguar roars into action. The Sea Link is again our chosen
path. Quite irresistible when one feels like a long drive.
Conversations
are in full swing. Gossip, jokes, meaningful conversations fill the air as we
speed towards town. Suddenly, an innocent discussion turns into almost an
argument. We realize this and bring the conversation back to other things.
Agreeing to disagree is a pact we have made long ago.
Hunger,
now seems to grow along with the conversations. We stop at Bachelor’s and order
our favorite grilled sandwich along with mango ice-cream.
Satiated,
we move ahead and on reaching Nariman Point, take a U turn.
Till
the time we reach Bandra, there is no lull in our talks. Designer clothes,
movies, politics, people………. The list goes on. Once again, we’re back in Bandra
and headed home.
In
times of lockdown, memories of beautiful long drives, fill the mind.
Looking
forward to the days when we can do this again. Long drives surely are
therapeutic.
Ciao!!
